The H.E.R.S. Foundation

For more than thirty years, Nora Coffey has championed informed consent for women being told they should have hysterectomy through her non-profit Hysterectomy Educational Resources and Services (H.E.R.S.) Foundation.

Informed consent would require that all women be given full disclosure about the surgical risks and permanent physiological and psychological changes brought on by hysterectomy.

Located in the greater Philadelphia area, Nora counsels women both pre- and post-hysterectomy.

With Rick Schweikert, Nora is author of The H Word. The book discusses the common reasons hysterectomy is recommended, the diagnostic studies that should be performed to obtain a diagnosis, alternatives in treatment and their risks, and strategies to help women cope with the lifelong aftereffects of removal of the uterus and ovaries.
